A new case for Louise

Thursday

It was around midnight before I finally got to sleep and I got up around  8, so a good recovery from a jet lag of 12 hours.  Finally, my phone was working.

My red case had one of its wheels damaged on my trip to Melbourne a few months ago. I had repaired it with fibreglass but it had come out completely on this trip. While Vicki was picking up Millie from the airport and then collection the mini bus, I went shopping at the large Chinook Mall. In the end I selected a similar styled case, a bit bigger and about twice the price I wanted to pay.

After re packing into my new case, and absolutely filling the bus, 4 of us headed off to Lake Louise. The last 2 rows of seats had to be dismantled to fit in the goodie bags, drinks and food for the hospitality room, a printer, games and all our luggage. We drove along highway 1 into the Rockies, where the spectacular mountains I'd flown over the day before were seen close up.

They say Canada has 2 seasons, Winter and Construction, and there were many miles of roadworks to pass on this trip. In additional to the normal upgrade and repairs, there was a lot of flood damage to repair as well.

We opted for the scenic drive from Banff and were beaten to the hotel by Vicki in her car, even though she waited for a later airport pickup.

The hotel is a grand building and was absolutely packed with guests. The lake itself is a deep aqua colour due to the presents of rock flour from the glaciers and there is a spectacular view from several terraces and the lower bar. Vicki's room was on the first floor with a lake view. It had 2 queen beds and I stayed with her the first night, along with much of the gear from the van. I discovered I'd left my iphone charger plugged in in the room I used at Vicki's.

At six a group of 8 of us met and headed down the hill to deer lodge which has a restaurant that serves game. I had the caribou medallions. It was great food, but quite pricey.
