Lines are crossed

Wednesday

The flight from Perth to Sysney left just after midnight but they weren't in any hurry to take off. A strong tail wind had the predicted flight time of only 3:16 hours and we would arrive too early to be allowed to land, since there is a 6 am curfew. In the end, we did at least a couple of circuits over Sydney before touching down.

With that short a flight it was hardly worth trying to sleep. The plane was much more comfortable than the Jetstar to Singapore and had the individual screen in the seat back for movies on demand. I watched the hangover III and then the Umbilical brotehrs on the TV menu. I did nod off for a bit at some point.

I met Geoff, our NSW state sec and also a participant in the international Leaders program this year and we had a couple of hours together. He has brought  some ideas from the US and European gatherings which seem useful and which we may adopt here as well. It was also good to have a chat with someone than just sitting in an airport by myself waiting for the next flight.

I headed over to the international terminal around 9 with plenty of time to make my flight. Again the seating wasn't too bad on this flight on AirCanada. I was sitting in the middle row of 3 seats with a couple next to me, so I moved back a row where there was a single on the otther aisle. It was nonetheless difficult to sleep for more than an hour or so at a time and I ecpect I didn't get more than 4 or 5 hours all up. The flight was over 12 hours and I watched a couple of films and 5 different stand up comedy shows on the TV channel. They fed us 3 times.

The passport, baage formalities were quick although it was a long walk from the gate to the immigration desk, and then we had to walk all the way back again and then further. At least we were able to put our cases on a conveyor belt, once we'd exited from the collection area.

They are calling us to board again so it was a pretty short transit.

Oh yes, we crossed bioth the equator and the International date line on this flight.
