Tuesday night
In a twist on the conventional Fly In Fly Out workers who leave from this airport for the mines, I have flown to Perth, done some work and am now flying out again.
We arrived a bit ahead of schedule from Singapore and once we had landed I rang my son to check if he was waiting for me. I went to voice mail. I repeated this 3 or 4 more times as I progress to duty free, passports and baggage and finally when I was through it all.
I figured he must be asleep and rather than wake him to drive to the airport it would be quicker to take a taxi. We hadn't even got to the traffic lights when he called me to say he was there. For some reason his phone didn't ring when I called. I asked the driver to drop me on the side of the road. This was a lose-lose situation since I paid him $15 for nothing and for $15 he'd lost his place in the queue and a chance for a $50 fare. Ho Hum.
After Singapore, Perth seems particularly dowdy and dreary. However after stopping for duty free, I was through passports with barely a wait and my bag was already on the carousel. The walk through the green channel snaked back and forth a few times but moved steadily and we went straight out. There was virtually no waiting for a taxi either, although in this case it may have given David time to call if there was.
Today was mixed. I did a bit of work, solving a couple of problems for different clients but not really into it.
I bought a neck pillow, which I should have done before Singapore. However I already had one of blow up ones but couldn't find it. I made a DIY one on the flight home using my knitted jacket inside a pair of skins leggings. Not in Mensa for nothing, or was it my degree from the university of MacGyver that did it.
I was looking forward to watching my recording of the Dockers game but it seems that it didn't get recorded. I had 2 other AFL games that did get recorded, but from teams I wouldn't watch anyway, so I just deleted them
It was raining, so it took 4 goes through the dryer to get all the clothes dry and after a pizza dinner I started repacking. It seems a bit weird. My suit case is understandably heavier with more clothes stuffed in it, and these are jeans, coats and jackets, plus more and heavier shoes. However my laptop bag seems much lighter and the only significant change is that I had a book last time. Likewise my hand bag seems lighter too after removing the metal business card cases and carrying fewer coins. I keep worrying I have forgotten something.
WE have arrived much too early as there was moire than an hour before boarding is likely to start. Fortunately there is now free wifi in the terminal, not just in the lounge. It seems, since I have used the lounge many times before, that my laptop automatically connected to that, and the service was poor. However since change servers, it has become tolerable.
Still an hour before take off. and then another 23 1/2 hours before landing in Calgary. Can't say I'm looking forward to the trip, but it will be great once I get there.
