Friday
The conference started today and the morning was mostly "getting to know you" exercises. There are once again memebrs from many different countries present with new faces amongst those I know from previous years. It looks like the Australian contingent has grown to 10 or 11.
After a Lion dance to welcome us, we were asked to form teams. We had coloured stickers on our badges and were not allowed to have more than 2 with the same colour in any team. This ensured that we mixed it up a lot (since same coloured dots were given to people from the same country).
After some getting to know each other time during morning tea we had some groups games. The first had us competing against another team. We all introduced ourselves and the game was to be able to recognise and name the opposition team members. One member from each team faced off behind a separating sheet, and when it was dropped, the first to name the other won. We came from behind to win 8-7. We later had to work out how to flip a sheet without anybody stepping on to the floor and finally had a paper airoplane making contest.
After lunch there was a treasure hunt and we missed a couple of bonus clues in our rush to get to the next station. The final puzzle had 16 tiles with 4 letters on each with each 1/4 in different colours. It was obvious that you had to arrange them with matching colours and they would spell out something but without the extra clues which gave you the edge colours we didn't get too far.
The last session had a presentation on story telling with references to history, arts, bio chemistry and a few exercises thrown in.
Finally a speaker showed us part of his collection of weird and
wonderful gadgets, trinkets and puzzles he'd gather from different
countries.
