It seems hard to believe it is only a few days before I head off to Singapore for the start of 3 weeks of Mensa activity.
This will be the venue for this year's Asian gathering, following KL and then Bali in the previous 2 years. It will also be the first time I've been to Singapore, other than in transit, for nearly 30 years.
The next events after that are in Canada and despite the obvious efficiency of flying directly there from Singapore, I could not find an acceptable flight option that wasn't ridiculously expensive - ie double the cost of my eventual choice of flying back to Perth and then leaving for Canada a day later.
There are 3 events in Canada - A regional gathering at Lake Louise the following weekend and the International Board of Directors meeting in Calgary the weekend after that. In between, there is a road trip to Jasper and Banff.
I have been to Canada only once before in the mid 90's. I was travelling with a Canadian, who lives in Australia and we visited her family out of Winnipeg and then spent most of the time on the East of the country. I did have one day in Vancouver that trip but will only transit this time. Last time I only spent an hour or so in Calgary airport, rather than nearly 2 weeks in this region this time.
I am looking forward to catching up with old friends, making new ones and generally have a great time with other Mensa members. I also hope to catch up with some other people I know, who are now living in Calgary.
