Saturday
The Speaker's part of the conference was held today. It started with Jim telling us about the Mensa Educationa and Research Foundation, which was quite useful since they give away awards, grants and scholarships and I now have a presentation to refer too. They also provide educational and other resources for gifted kids which I shall pass on once I get Home.
Anneleuax then spoke on some of the problems of gifted people and children in particular, followed by Kris who spoke about entrepreneurship.
Later we had a talk by Tan Kin Kian, who ran a major Insurance co-operative an academic speaking on multi-culturalism in Singapore and the lady in charge of a large charitable foundation, which included a short film. Quite a diverse range of topics and quite interesting.
Our chairman's meeting was held after this and we are looking at setting up a regional website, with forums for discussion amongst equivalent officers from different countries and a combined merchandising store. I also volunteered Australia to host the conference in 4 years after Japan, Korea and China. The Japanese have been very proactive in advertising for Osaka next year. They all had polo shirts with the dates on the back and handed out hundreds of round cardboard fans with the same details. They gave each country rep a shirt as well, subtly turning us all into living billboards for next year.
The Gala dinner started with a display of light sabrefighting by a local troupe who then "trained" some volunteers. We had a singer later on and TK led us in some group dancing. There was also a DJ. In between, we ate drank, swapped stories, took pictures and so on.
A group of us headed to the bar which had just shut, but then reopened and we stayed till after 2am.
